Venture Crew
Summary
The Troop
Committee supports the formation of and provides resource for
the Venture Crew within Troop 840 according to BSA guidelines
and Troop policies.

Venture Crew
is an outlet and attraction for older, more experienced
Scouts seeking higher challenges in Scouting within the
Troop. It remains "boy led".

Venture Crew
is an advanced challenge for the Scout in planning,
leadership and service while applying Scout skills.

Venture Crew
requires continued fulfillment of the Scouts' obligation and
involvement in Troop leadership and activities.

Venture Crew
recognizes the development of the Scouts maturity and allows
for involvement of guests, including females under
appropriate supervision, in Venture activities.
General
Requirements

An adult leader, 21 years of
age or older, active as Assistant Scoutmaster-Venture to
'supervise and resource for the Venture Crew. Additional
adult leaders should be identified to aid in Venture
outings.

Minimum age
and rank requirements for Venture registration are 14 years
of age and Life rank.

During Troop
elections, the position of Venture Crew Chief is established
and elected for. This position is equivalent to a Patrol
Leader and the term the same as for other Troop positions at
six months.

Venture Crews
will hold weekly meetings with BSA established format of
content for the purpose of planning and preparing for 1 to 4
"Ultimate Adventures" through the Scout year
coordinated and integrated with Troop activities.
Venture
Guest Considerations
Guests of Venture
activities are encouraged by BSA policies. All Venture members
should be covered by appropriate Troop insurance.
Likewise, any guests should have appropriate insurance arranged
for them through BSA by the Troop. All BSA and Troop guidelines
and policies for travel, activity and conduct will be adhered
to. If female guests are invited and present, a female adult
leader 21 years of age or older must be present.
Coeducational activities are encouraged in Venture Crew to
introduce the opportunities available in the Explorer program.
Venture Letter
Requirements -
Worn on Scout Jacket or MB Sash

Scout acquired and read the
BSA "Discovering Venture" Guidebook.

Scout registered as a Venture
Crewmember.

Scout
actively participated in at least one "Ultimate
Adventure" outing by the Venture Crew. Assistant
Scoutmaster approval is required.

Scout
maintained at least 75% attendance at Venture Crew meetings
over a 3 month period. Weekly meetings are recommended as
per BSA content format as found in "Discovering
Venture" Handbook, pp. 8-9.

Scout demonstrated to the
Assistant Scoutmaster that he knows and lives by the Scout
Oath and Law.
The "Venture" bar may
be added immediately and worn above the BSA label on the Scout
shirt above the left pocket.

Crew selects a Crew Chief for the
intended activity.
