Order of the Arrow – a Brotherhood of Cheerful Service

Scouting’s National Honor Society, The Order of the Arrow was founded in 1915 on the principals of Brotherhood, Cheerfulness, and Service.  It's goal is to cause the Scout Promise and Law to spring into action.

Purpose of the Order:
To recognize those campers – Scouts and Scouters – who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and by such recognition cause other campers to conduct themselves in such manner as to warrant recognition.
To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit.
To promote Scout camping, which reaches its greatest effectiveness as a part of the unit’s camping program, both year-round and in the summer camp, as directed by the camping committee of the council.
To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others.

Scout Eligibility Criteria:
Scouts must have achieved the First Class rank or higher.
All members must have experienced at least 15 nights of Boy Scout camping within the past two calendar years, including one, but no more than one, long term camp of 5 or 6 nights. The remaining 9 or 10 nights must consist of overnight, weekend or other short term camping.
• Scouts must exemplify the Scout Oath and Law and be recommended by the Scoutmaster.

Mission of Mic-O-Say
"I have been challenged to the best in me."

The Tribe of Mic-O-Say is an H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation leadership program whose mission is the intensification of the principles of the Scout Oath and Law in the lives of Scouts and Scouters and to encourage their continued participation in Scouting.

Begun in 1929, Mic-O-Say accomplishes its purposes by affording members ongoing opportunities for introspection on Scouting values, as well as practical application of those ideals.  The program is energized by memorable customs and traditions, linked indelibly to the ways of the Native Americans.  The air of mystery, the pageantry of ceremony, the color and trappings of Native American Attire and material culture, provide an unmatched setting for increased self esteem developed by succeeding at difficult tasks and recognition gained through growth in responsibility.

For Scouts to be eligible, they must be active campers who exemplify the Scout Oath and Law, be advancing toward the rank of Eagle, and be nominated by their Scoutmaster and Troop Committee.  Nominations are reviewed and subject to the approval of the Tribal Council.
